Inspirational Story, Chritina Mangan
Every single person in this world is destined for their own greatness, some it comes easier than others some harder, but every single one has their own struggles and hardships trying to stop their own personal greatness. Mine, well it has been a bumpy road from a younger age but I always seemed to rise above, but as of the last 5+ years those struggles became harder and I am now at the point I am trying to rise again.
My name is Christina, and I am 27 years young! When you look at me you see normality but little do you know I am nowhere near normal, titanium is more like it. After getting accepted into College on a Track scholarship and was studying Athletic Training and exercise science! Things were looking up! I got a great opportunity where I traveled with cheer and dance camps during the summer and was their first aider! I was almost done with my first summer doing that and about to
head back to my Sophomore year in college, when I was traveling to one of the last camps for the summer from Denver to Nebraska and was struck from behind on the highway by a semi Truck. I ended up braking my neck and needing spinal surgery and suffered brain damage. I attempted to finish college regardless, but the brain damage and accident ended up affecting me and I had to drop out and get surgery. It was a rough road to recovery and I was finally getting clear and being able to cope with my brain damage in a way that seemed to work with me. I ended up moving here to WA and started to finally get the courage to try and grasp my life again and make a name for myself again. I joined the Seattle Mist, apart of the Legends Football League (women’s armature football league) and was getting in there and feeling like a new me again when a few months into the season I was going to a Seahawks post season game and was hit head on by a drunk driver. Here I was again sitting behind the wheel feeling my life shatter in my lap. I re injured my neck on multiple levels and fractured my knee. After recovering my knee I returned home to Denver where my doctor was to get another spinal surgery. After everything was heeling great I was going into the Dr for my doctor appointment to clear me back to physical exercise and possibly the Seattle mist again, we found out that the work we just did broke and I was rushed back into surgery. I am now 3 spinal surgeries and whole neck full of metal in, and needing a lower back surgery to finish everything up, hopefully, I decided that instead of being the “disabled” girl everyone sees me as
and treats me as, I am going to take my life back. I am going to stop letting my life be dictated by doctors and surgeries and car accidents and I am going to run it. As we all can tell I love being fit, but after gaining over 40lbs from all the surgeries, I knew I had work. So I joined the Safe fitness team with Tanji Johnson, and stayed apart of the Seattle mist as much as I can while I recover. I am now 30lbs into my weight loss and though I am not there fully yet, I will be getting on the stage for the first time this June to start my fitness competition life. Is it easy no, would it be easier to accept disability and spend everyday on my couch and bed hardly leaving it, yes, but that’s not me, that’s not my destiny. Now I have always be able to help people and I pray that chasing this life and taking it into my hands I show people that they CAN do anything they want to do as long as they try, as long as they take their life into their hands and use the excuses that could be say I can and I will regardless of what life throws at me because we get one shot and lets make it worth it! I am here to show everyone that says I can’t, I wont, its too hard, I should just be in a bed…..SAY I WONT….AND I WILL! No burden is too strong for me, I am strong, I mean I am made of titanium! 😉 Bring on the new obstacles I got this! WE GOT THIS!
